Rajini’s “Rana’ poster released!

Eros International Media Ltd (Eros International) announced the commencement of the shoot of Rajinikanth’s ‘Rana’ on 29 April 2011. Directed by K.S. Ravikumar, the film’s shoot will start with a puja by the superstar along with the cast and crew in Chennai to mark the auspicious occasion.

Announced earlier this year, ‘Rana’ will be a live action magnum opus with Rajinikanth playing triple role and will be released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. Along with Rajini, the film stars Deepika Padukone, Ileana D’Cruz and Sonu Sood.

Speaking on the project, director K.S Ravikumar said, “Rana has a strong story, a very interesting ensemble cast of actors coupled with super star Rajinikanth in a triple role and promises to have some stunning visual effects that will surely take Indian cinema to the next level.”

Sunil Lulla, Managing Director, Eros International Media Ltd added, “It is indeed a proud moment for us and we are very excited to be a part of this ambitious project with Rajinikanth, one of the most popular actors of all times. We are expecting this to be a landmark film for all those associated with this project.”

The music for the film is being scored by AR Rahman, director of photography Ratnavelu and editing would be done by Antony. The technical director is Soundarya Rajnikanth, of Ocher Visual effects UK (a subsidiary of Ocher Studios Pvt Limited). Charles Darby of Eyeqube Studios - renowned visual effects luminary and an Emmy award winner - is the creative and special effects director on the film.

‘Rana’ is scheduled to release in FY 2012.

Eros International along with NextGen Films, will produce the film through Rana Production Ltd., UK.

upset with Ko’s success?

Udayanidhi Stalin, the distributor of Ko, has said that some people are very upset about Ko’s success. He added that he feels very sorry for them and wished them luck next time. Though the producer-distributor-actor did not disclose the names of all those whom he thinks are upset about Ko’s success, there are strong speculations about whom he is referring to.

Sources say that Udayanidhi has referred to Silambarasan as he was the first choice of director KV Anand to play the lead role but it went to Jiiva following some differences.

Meanwhile, the film is being appreciated by movie buffs all over the world and has already been declared a hit.

Prabhu Deva and actress Nayantara marraige announced

It looks like ace director Prabhu Deva and actress Nayantara will tie the knot sometime in June or July 2011.

Sources say that the delay in their marriage is because of the ongoing divorce case filed by Prabhu Deva and his wife Ramlatha before the family court of Chennai in December 2010.

Initially, Ramlatha was unwilling to settle for a compromise, but when Prabhu Deva offered her a huge compensation in alimony, including three residential properties and two cars, she accepted the compromise.

According to a source, Prabhu has already started giving the alimony he promised and as a first step, he recently paid her Rs. 5 lakhs. A farmhouse and a 22-cent property in ECR have also been transferred to Ramlatha and their two sons Rishi and Aditya. Besides a property in Hyderabad, a flat in Anna Nagar will also be transferred to Ramlatha.

Suriya doing triple roles 7Am Arivu?

Director A.R. Murugadoss's much awaited 7Am Arivu is fast progressing. Contrary to earlier reports that the film would feature Suriya in triple roles, source close to a film unit confirmed that the film will have Suriya in two avatars: one, as a circus artist and the other as a Buddhist monk in China. Shruti Haasan, the female lead, is playing the role of a scientist.

Suriya has performed all the circus acts himself without using a body double in any of the sequences. Besides his circus acts, the actor will also perform several innovative stunts in the film. A special trainer from Rajkamal Circus was appointed to teach him the jumps and other special items he performs in the movie. According to sources, Suriya is also planning to perform the circus stunts he has learnt during the 7Am Arivu music launch for his fans.

Suriya also did some homework to play the character of a monk at a monastery in China. Another major highlight of the film is the Harris-Murugadoss combo after the super hit Ghajini.

KV Anand's Ko is a super hit!

KV Anand has struck gold. His Ko featuring Jiiva, Karthika, Piaa and Ajmal has been declared a hit by the trade. As per trade sources, the film has netted a whopping Rs 4.65 Crore during the Easter weekend (April 22 to 24). It is the biggest ever opening for a Tamil film this year.

Ko has surprised the trade, by being a hit in the overseas and Kerala market, where Jiiva films did not do so well.  Noted trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: "Tamil film Ko [in U.S.A. and U.K.] had a robust opening weekend." 

In its opening weekend in UK, the film has collected £ 32,328 [approx. Rs. 23.68 lacs]. Ko is such a hit that theatres in Tamil Nadu, are refusing to accommodate other new releases for the coming weeks in their bigger screens.

In fact, Red Giants who are distributing the film in the state have increased the number of screens, with addition of 15 more prints!

Simbu’s dad buys ‘Vaanam’ rights

Dhayanidhi Alagiri’s Cloud Nine Movies may release ‘Vaanam’ all over the world. But the film’s Chennai distribution rights have been bagged by STR’s father Vijaya T Rajendar.

“Silambarasan’s home banner Kural TV Creations will distribute ‘Vaanam’ in Chennai region. There is no specific reason behind this decision as this is the case for most Simbu movies,” say sources.

Meanwhile, Simbu has issued a warning to his online fans, urging them not to criticise any other actor. This announcement comes in the wake of his fans thanking him for not acting in ‘Ko’, which according to them had little scope for the protagonist.

‘I have great respect for my colleagues in the industry. I will not allow my fans to talk bad about anyone. It is not fair to leave harsh comments on a public forum like the world wide web,” he said.

Ko gets super begining in US

When it comes to the United States and UK, Bollywood films always triumph. But for a change, this time Jiiva's Ko, directed by K.V. Anand, got a super opening at the US box office. The film collected $ 70,400 on 11 venues [early estimates], with an average of $ 6,400 per screen.

"Thank u all for your whooping support for Ko. All your appreciations gone to my heart. All my mistakes, slips u pinpointed gone to my mind," an overwhelmed Anand tweeted.

In UK, the film released in almost 15 centres, beating Shah Rukh Khan's My Name Is Khan, which released in 10 centres.

Nanban team spotted at Skywalk mall..!

nanban-vijay-22-04-11The third schedule for Nanban is proceeding at a brisk pace. Today the shoot was at Ampa Valley (Skywalk) Mall situated in Ponamallee High Road. Some scenes with Vijay and Ileana were shot. Vijay looked very youthful and handsome wearing cool blue jeans and a tee. Ileana looked lovely and was wearing a trendy outfit that showed off her curves to maximum advantage.

The shoot had to be held in the midst of tight security as a huge crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of the stars. Shankar was very strict and sent crew members around to issue instructions to the crowd. Onlookers were asked not to use their cameras or video recorders.

Vijay did the scenes like the consummate professional he is and took only three takes to perfect the shot. Ileana had a little more difficulty as she struggled with her Tamil but in the end, the director was satisfied.

Harris Jayaraj is almost finished with the music and the audio will be released soon.

Rajinikanth wants a typical South Indian belle!

Deepika Padukone is considered one of the most beautiful women in this country but even her phenomenal looks are insufficient for a Superstar movie. The first schedule of Rana was supposed to begin but Rajinikanth felt that Deepika’s look was not satisfactory. He had a word with KS Ravikumar and expressed his concerns.

The film has a complex plot that supposedly covers three generations; therefore, the look and feel of the film has to be authentic. Rajinikanth felt that Deepika has to look like the typical South Indian belle with a simple yet radiant beauty. Her supermodel looks are not suitable for the character. The shooting has been delayed and will resume once the make-up department finalizes Deepika’s new look.

Simbu’s Vaaam censored release on 29th!

STR's eagerly awaited Vaanam was censored today (April 24) morning, by the regional censor board in Chennai.

The film has been cleared with an 'UA' certificate, with voice muting. The censor board members who saw the film were all praise for Vaanam, as they liked it a lot. Says Simbu, who was present at the censoring: "Everybody who saw it, including lady members congratulated me for
doing the film."

Vaanam  is written and directed by Krish and a remake of his 2010 Telugu film Vedam. The film is a multi-starrer and has Silambarasan, Bharath, Anushka , Prakash Raj, Sonia Agarwal and Saranya.

It has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, while cinematography and editing are handled by Nirav Shah and Anthony respectively. The film produced by VTV Productions and Magic Box pictures is being marketed by Cloud
Nine.

Vaanam is now confirmed to release big on April 29, worldwide, says VTV Ganesh the producer of the film.

The Maghadheera girl  has a reach in Andhra where Suriya has an audience and will be a star in Bollywood after doing Hindi Singam with Ajay Devgan. The only thing going against her is her not so impressive progress card (hit movie) in Tamil cinema.

The others are also trying to get this coveted role opposite the hot and happening Suriya.

Baasha, which became the base for 'Rajni phenomenon' in Tamil Nadu, is expected to create a buzz in Bollywood too. Interestingly, Amitabh Bachchan's ABCL tried to dub the film in 1996.

KV Anand's upcoming movie KO is scheduled to be released on Valentine’s Day. The movie stars Jeeva, Ajmal , Karthika and Piya Bajpai in lead roles. Karthika debuts in the movie and she is actress Radha's daughter is to be mentioned. The movie is the third movie for the director after ‘Kana Kandein’ and ‘Ayan’.

Actor Jeeva plays the role of a photo journalist in the movie and the movie is said to be a political action thriller and the adventures of a photo journalist ( which is being played by Jeeva ). During his adventures, Jeeva gets himself endangered while investigating a mystery case.

Ajmal who made his debut in tamil movies through Anjathe is also playing an important role in the film and the character of the movie is said to have some grey tones in the movie and the actor while speaking about his character said that he is very much excited about the film and also added that the character was challenging for him to do.

News also confirm that the movie is inspired from the hollywood movie ‘State of Play’, which has actor Russell Crowe playing the role of a journalist in the movie who puts his life on the stake to help his politician friend ignorant of his true color.

The movie is also said to have many real life incidents which the director experienced being a photo journalist before becoming a film cameraman. The movie started in early 2010 had a few obstacles for the cast.

Actor Karthi was approached for the movie, but the officials said that actor Silambarasan and Tammanna will be playing the lead role. Few hurdles were there in the cast but finally Jeeva and Karthika was signed for the movie. The same thing happened in the case of Ajmal which was negotiated with Narain and Prasanna.

The locations of the movie include places like Pondichery, Thekkadi, Vagaman, Kumili, Madurai, Manakkadu, Rameswaram, Thiruchendur, Parundumpara and a few other southern towns. Substantial part was also shot in striking locales in China and Tanzania. Richard Nathan is the cameraman.

The music is scored by Harris Jayaraj and the songs are really rocking. ‘Ko’ is produced by Kumar Jayaram for RS Infotainment and is marketed by Udhayanidhi Stalin of Red Giant Movies.
