Leighton Meester

Television star Leighton Meester walked the red carpet in New York City on Thursday to take a stand against domestic violence. The Gossip Girl actress hopes to raise awareness of the abuse women suffer at the hands of a violent partner, and she spoke out in support of the 15th annual Shop 'Til It Stops campaign, which raises funds for the cause through retail sales. And Meester insists she was very moved to take part in the drive, because the topic can affect almost everyone. She tells People.com, "I think it's an issue that everyone can take part in because it applies to everyone. You can be a victim or someone you love can be a victim. The more people are aware, the more it can be prevented. She adds, "You can be a victim or someone you love can be a victim. The more people are aware, the more it can be prevented."
