Vijay starrer Velayudham was shot extensively in Pollachi and its surrounding areas. The film’s director Jayam Raja had chosen Valla Gundapuram near Pollachi for its exotic locations and also because it was apt for the storyline. The director says that this place will be one of the characters in

Interestingly, Valla Gundapuram happens to be noted comedian Goundamani’s hometown. Some scenes were also shot in his house, where his mother still lives. The entire team, including Vijay and Jayam Raja interacted with her to know the lifestyle of the people in the village.
A well that was dug for the film was gifted to the village and the villagers were happy to have got such a useful gift.
